- 8 thick baguette slices
- 4 ounces gouda cheese, sliced
- 4 slices bacon, cut in half and cooked
- 16 fresh Ontario strawberries, hulled, sliced and patted dry
- 3 – 4 tablespoons (45 – 60 mL) butter
Butter all the slices of bread and lay on a clean work surface, butter side down. Cover 4 slices with cheese and top with bacon slices. Top with sliced strawberries. Top with more cheese and grill as you would a grilled cheese sandwich. When the bottom is golden brown, turn it over. If the cheese is not fully melted by the time the outside has toasted, place sandwiches on a baking sheet in a moderately hot oven (350F) for 5 minutes or more to fully melt the cheese. Serve warm. Makes 4 slicers, doubles easily.
