The August 4th flooding which devastated over 1,800 homes here in Burlington this past month has impacted all of us, either directly or indirectly. While the waters have receded, we all know that there is urgent rebuilding that needs to be done to make these homes safe and habitable again for the hundreds of people.
In response to this urgent need, the four Burlington Rotary Clubs have joined forces and this year, at Ribfest, we will be making a special appeal for donations at the 19th annual Canada’s Largest Ribfest for the Burlington Flood Relief Program.
“When starting Ribfest, the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore’s goals were three-fold: to create an amazing family friendly community event, promote volunteerism and most importantly, raise funds to do some good in the world. When Mayor Goldring, a fellow Rotary club member, approached us about doing something to support the Burlington Flood Relief at Ribfest we didn’t hesitate. Please give generously and together, you and Rotary will help our city with one of its toughest challenges ever” says Linda Davies, current President of the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore.
The City of Burlington has requested matching funds from the provincial government’s Ontario Disaster Recovery Assistance Program, which will provide a two for one matching on the money raised in the community.
Donations can be made the entrance gates to Ribfest and at ticket selling stations across the park. The 19th annual Canada’s Largest Ribfest takes place Labour Day Weekend, August 29th- September 1st this year at Spencer Smith Park.
