Big Cheese Days are happening this May. The first of four cheesey Saturday events was launched on May 6 and will take place every Saturday for the month. For a great day trip, head to Canada’s Dairy Capital and celebrate all there is to do, see and eat.
The Oxford County Cheese Trail has ramped up their game with amazing culinary experiences, games, delicious local cheese menus, artisan workshops and of course…cheese! A brief list of ideas is included below, but you’ll want to visit Tourism Oxford’s website to get the full list as well as a downloadable map to help you plan. Some of the area’s inns and wineries have created special packages so you can make a whole weekend out of it.
Put the Leaping Deer Adventure Farm & Market on your list, whether it’s for lunch, a cup of coffee or to pick up some baked goods for later (pies, tarts, bread, etc). If you stay to eat, the fries are delicious, the onion rings are massive and the Apple Pie Grilled Cheese is a must.
It’s a very family-friendly trail. My kids definitely had fun exploring, tasting and even had a chance to see cows get milked by a very cool VMS (voluntairy milking system) at Mountainoak Cheese.
“Legendairy Experiences” include:
Be an Expert Cheddar Judge
Bright Cheese and Butter (Bright, View Map)
Grade the cheddar at Bright Cheese with positive and negative notes the way judging is done in competition. After you’ve scored, see how you did with tasting notes to compare. Don’t forget to put your name in a draw for a Cheddar Lovers Box on your way out the door!
Every Saturday in May
