Help Clean Up the City with BurlingtonGreen

BurlingtonGreen

Have you signed up for BurlingtonGreen’s City-Wide Community Clean Up yet?

Thousands have already signed up to help make Burlington cleaner and greener for this year’s Community Clean Up Green Up events hosted by BurlingtonGreen and the City of Burlington, and there’s still room for more! Registration for the popular city-‐wide annual event held on April 23rd will be open until noon on April 22nd on the BurlingtonGreen website at burlingtongreen.org. It’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate Earth Day with family and friends, and make a real difference for the health of our communities and our environment by working together!

Yes, it’s gritty work, but it’s also fun and tremendously rewarding! Over the last five years, citizens across Burlington have worked diligently to remove waste and debris from parks, streams, school yards, and neighbourhoods, resulting in the retrieval and proper disposal of more than 10,000 kg (10 tonnes) of litter at Community Clean Up events, not including the tremendous amount of additional litter collected by participating schools and businesses that have their waste collected separately.

Last year, just shy of 12,000 participants registered to pitch in and clean up our great city, and thanks to the dedication of proud and caring Burlingtonians who continue to join each year, Community Clean Up Green Up events have grown to become Burlington’s largest volunteer participation event. You don’t want to miss this!

Schools and businesses celebrating Earth Day are also invited to register to participate and arrange clean ups during the week of April 18th to 22nd, 2016. Their names will be showcased on BurlingtonGreen’s website and all schools that register to participate in Clean Up events can send in photos of their students in action to be entered into a draw for a chance to win a $200 cash prize to support an eco-‐project at their school, courtesy of BurlingtonGreen.

Earth Day Eco-Fair

Clean Up participants and the general public are also invited to attend BurlingtonGreen’s Earth Day Eco-Fair Celebration at Central Park Bandshell and Central Library on April 23rd from 11am to 4pm. Festivities will include a BBQ courtesy of Turtle Jack’s and refreshments courtesy of Tim Hortons, activities for kids, some great music, a variety of local eco-displays, and opportunities to win some free eco-prizes.
