Din-spiration in a box, delivered to your door

Eating a delicious home-cooked meal is easy: all you do is sit down and enjoy it. What’s probably less than enjoyable for most of us (especially me) are the steps involved before getting that good food on the table: meal planning, finding recipes and grocery shopping.

Every week I go through the same thought process, thinking, “Can someone else just tell me what to make every week and hand me all of the ingredients…and the recipes?”

Mealspirations in Oakville does just that.

The people at Mealspirations offered to send me a sample box – it was like a gift and a lifesaver all in one in the form of three meals! Once it arrived, I was armed with some meals to feed the family with, minus the meal planning or troll the internet for ideas.

The box contained three recipes and accompanying ingredients for Homemade Mac and Cheese, Steak Tortillas and Haddock with Roasted Vegetables and Lemon Pan Sauce. Each recipe is labelled with a difficulty level.

This was so, so easy to make and it was delicious. Only two dirty pots, then one pan into the oven and dinner was ready.

Haddock

Even though the Haddock had a difficulty level of medium, I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make. For a family who’s not seafood lovers, we actually liked this recipe so much that I’m looking forward to making it again. The fish was mild and flaky and the lemon sauce added a nice light flavour.

This was the most labour intensive of the dishes, since it involved several individual componets: the pico de gallo, guacamole, cabbage slaw and the steak. It was worth it though and tasted like a meal I’d order at a restaurant. The pico de gallo was so fragrant with the garlic and cilantro, and the guacamole was rich and creamy. The steak turned out tender and juicy.
