Article Written by Becky Dumais

Get your jazz-hands poised and your toes ready to tap during downtown Oakville’s Jazz Festival this August. Also, prepare to be amazed as the circus comes to town! The circus-themed Children’s Festival in Burlington, that is.

Downtown Oakville turns into Bourbon Street (albeit a family-friendly version) during the 21st Annual Jazz Festival. All you need to enjoy the event is to lend your ears to the snazzy jazz and to spend the day at your leisure. “Each summer, the Jazz Festival draws thousands of residents and tourists to Downtown Oakville providing a substantial boost to our local economy,” says Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. “I encourage everyone to make their way to the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival this August. I’m looking forward to it!”

Performers this year include: Jen Chapin (daughter of the late Harry Chapin) and her trio, Juno award winner Liali Biali, Juno award nominees Jaffa Road, and an emerging guitarist from Brazil, Diego Figueiredo. The festival isn’t limited to just the main stages. Many of your favourite boutiques and restaurants will also be participating.

This year, Burlington’s Annual Children’s Festival – now into its 22nd year – will allow children and their parents to run away with the circus, but just for the weekend. Day One, at Beachway Park, includes sand sculpting fun, music, demonstrations and workshops. Head back to the park at 8pm for an outdoor screening of a circus-themed movie on the jumbo 25 ft. outdoor screen on the beach. Bring your lawn chairs and beach blankets.1

Day Two, at Spencer Smith Park, will be full of circus inflatables, themed shows, a kid’s marketplace, crafts, live entertainment, and characters to meet and greet. The city is celebrating over 20 years of this free festival that’s all about kids having fun. Make sure to come out and be a part of the magic!

Festival dates: August 17 – 18, 10am – 6pm each day
