Spring in your Step – Beautifully Varied Footwear Trends

By Erin Montgomery

A new season calls for new footwear, but when do we ever need a real excuse to buy new shoes? Just like the rest of your wardrobe, shoes should be updated with every new season, and what better way to welcome the warm weather than with a fabulous pair (or three) of shoes?

Whether you’re a woman who loves her heels or a gal who prefers to wear something a little morestrappy-sandals-street-style comfortable, there’s a style to suit your needs. Take a look at the four hottest trends in footwear for spring/summer 2013. The best part is you can shop for these styles locally, just check out our shopping guide!

What’s great about the metallic trend is its versatility. It can be worn with everything from a laid back, casual look to something  more formal. It adds just a little extra visual appeal to any outfit. Metallic footwear is available in silver, gold and gunmetal, with silver being the most popular. The metallic shoe is available in a heel, sandal, flat and even a wedge. Metallic tones will make any spring/summer look a little more captivating.

Clearly Complete

Another trend for spring is transparent details. When shopping for these shoes, stick to a pair that has either a transparent heel or ankle strap. Wearing clear shoes can be a bit tricky to pull off; IMG_3154they tend to become the focal point of your outfit. Transparent shoes are best matched with summer dresses or a pantsuit for a more office appropriate look. The upside to these shoes is that they give you creative freedom because they’re perfectly paired with any colour or print.

Pointy Pumps

For the last couple of years it was all about heels with a rounded toe, or the peep-toe pump, but this spring’s new shoe silhouette is the pointed toe. The pointy pump goes with everything from flowing skirts to brightly-coloured trousers. These heels add a little feminine touch to any outfit. PointyPump1This striking style is available in every colour, material and print, making it easy to take from day to night. Aside from its feminine shape, pointy pumps also lengthen the leg, making you appear taller.

Chunky Heels

If you’re not into stilettos, then the chunky heel is the perfect shoe for you. The chunky heel has the height of a stiletto but the comfort and support of a wedge. A bigger heel allows you to wear them all day without having to give your sore, tired tootsies a break and change into flats mid way through the day. These shoes are easily paired with summer dresses, skirts or a pair of capris. Because these shoes are somewhat visually heavy, it’s OK to IMG_3152show a little leg to balance out the look. They’re available in staple colours like black or brown and bright fun colours like green or orange.

Whichever shoe you choose to add to your wardrobe this season – and we see nothing wrong with owning one from each trend – you’ll be greeting spring in style.
